The AQALux is a low pressure UV water disinfection unit for horticultural applications.
The FDG Systems team has been at the cradle of UV water disinfection. Close involvement in the implementation and development of the first UV disinfectant in the early 90s of the last century has yielded a great deal of knowledge. This knowledge has been applied in the AQALux. UV water disinfection in horticulture has no secrets for FDG Systems.
The AQALux is a low-pressure UV unit which is equipped with the latest 800 Watt UV-C lamps that together with our 800 Watt power regulator has the highest efficiency. These newest techniques together with our smart flow regulation based on the continuously measured dose guarantees a highly efficient decontamination process.
The standard AQALux in combination with the filtration guarantees a 1000-fold reduction (killing 99.99%) of any plant pathogenic germs present in the water to be treated. The irradiation rooms have been specially developed for water types used in horticulture. Thanks to the unique concept of the unit, the supplied automation and the various measurement sensors, the entire process has been checked, so that you are assured of correct disinfection.
Disinfecting return water:
The drain water is reused to save water and fertilizers. To do this in a safe way, it is necessary to disinfect the drain water. The most efficient and used method is low pressure UV disinfection. The AQALux has been specially developed for the disinfection of drain water in horticulture. But rain and surface water can also be treated with an AQALux.
Disinfecting drain water saves costs and saves the environment. Because of the fertilizers present that have remained in the drain water, this drain water has a value that can amount to 2.5 euros per m3. This of course depends on the EC of the drain water. The discharge of drain water must in many cases meet requirements. The costs for discharging drain water can therefore increase considerably. Reuse also saves costs in this way.
The AQALux has been developed for small and large amounts of water. Under all circumstances the requirements are met to render nematodes, bacteria, fungi and if desired viruses harmless. Depending on the crop, you can make the choice for selective or total disinfection. The AQALux meets the requirements of the WUR and the “Horticulture Water Guidelines”. According to these requirements and guidelines, the following points must be met:
The disinfection of drain water must be done through a controlled process.
The effect of the UV-C is to achieve a 1000-fold reduction, which means a 99.99% guaranteed disinfection for plant pathogen in the water.
Bacteria, fungi and nematodes require a dose of 80 milliJoule/cm2
For viruses a dose of 250 milliJoule/cm2 is required, with the exception of the Tomato mosaic virus for which a dose of 150 milliJoule/cm2 is required.
All particles of water must be exposed to an intensity of at least 5 mW cm2.
After the AQALux, the filtered water may contain a maximum of 5 mg of dirt with a maximum size of 25 microns.

Although you take the best possible care with the AQALux to prevent germs from spreading through your drain water, we would like to point out that other hygiene measures in your company are still necessary.
UV oxidation module.
The AQALux has the option of adding hydrogen peroxide. Also called the oxidation method. UV and hydrogen peroxide reinforce each other during the disinfection process. This makes the treatment of the water even more effective. The oxidizing effect also removes growth inhibitors and crop protection agents for more than 80 percent. This results in healthy plants and the water can be recirculated for longer.
